Leesburg’s Main Street Car Show

Checking out Classic Car Show held every month on the 2nd Saturday in Leesburg.

The rainy season has arrived, and like clockwork, my plans to venture outdoors are consistently thwarted by those relentless torrential downpours that just love crashing the weekend party. As luck would have it, I was on my way to a car show when I found myself trapped in the clutches of a heavy rainfall. Doubts were casted on whether I'd even lay eyes on a single car. Thankfully, by the time I arrived, the rain had graciously taken its leave. Yay!

The raindrops stuck around, clinging to the cars like eager fans begging for autographs. I must say, it gave those vehicles a certain je ne sais quoi, a touch of dimensionality that made them pop. Now, I'm not exactly what you'd call a car aficionado, but there's no denying the irresistible allure of classic cars. They possess this unique charm, a quality that stirs up a sense of nostalgia. They say there's a fancy word for this feeling, Anemoia, where you yearn for times you didn't even live in…

Researchers have discovered that these nostalgic triggers, they actually boost your spirits. Yep, they've found that wallowing in memories of the past (real or imaginary ones) can actually lift your mood, whether you find yourself in a strange new place or down in the dumps. In this case, it surely felt like a little dose of happiness, wrapped up in a vintage package. Maybe, just maybe, Anemoia is all about nostalgia for hope. Not that I'm saying I'm hopeless or anything, but looking back at the pre-2000 era, there was this palpable sense of excitement and anticipation that I fear may have diminished in our current time. Ah, the good old days, when the future felt bright and full of promise…
